Projects - Foundry
I found a book called "The Charcoal Foundry" by a guy called David Gingery. The book is part of a series called "Build your own metal working shop from scrap". This series takes you from casting aluminium in green sand moulds though building machine tools with the castings and ending up with a lathe, metal shaper, mill and pillar drill. Very useful for somebody with a bit of spare time and little spare cash.....
I started with a couple of flower pots, a bag of barbecue charcoal from the local supermarket and a bit of scrap aluminium. I was most suprised when my efforts with this paid off and I managed to melt some metal. This is documented on the Foundry 1 page. This idea was not my own. It was borrowed from backyardmetalcasting. I didn't have any refactory at the time so this is a simplified version.
The Dave Gingery furnace is documented on the Foundry 2 Page.
